Why So Sirius?

Short answer: Sirius, also called the Dog Star in the constellation Canis Major, is the brightest star in the night sky, about 8.6 light-years away.

It is a binary: Sirius A, a hot main-sequence star, and Sirius B, a white dwarf that was once a more massive, more luminous star before shedding its outer layers and collapsing. The footage, credited to galaxies, shows a twinkling star through a telescope.
