Where Your Food Is Grown

Short answer: Plains are broad areas of flat or gently rolling land. Many have deep, fertile soils built up by rivers, glaciers or wind-blown loess, which makes them some of the world's most productive farmland; the North American Great Plains and the Eurasian steppe are major grain regions.

Grasslands on plains support grazing animals such as bison in North America and antelope and gazelles in Africa and Asia. Floodplains along rivers absorb floodwaters and renew soils with fresh sediment. The footage shows plains, farmland and herds, with the presenter.
