We Are Condensed Energy

Short answer: Albert Einstein's 1905 equation E = mc² states that mass and energy are equivalent, linked by the square of the speed of light.

Ordinary matter is made of protons, neutrons and electrons, and most of the mass of protons and neutrons comes not from their quarks' own masses but from the energy of the strong force binding quarks and gluons. The footage shows abstract animations of particles and light.

Video transcript: We Are Condensed Energy: Einstein's E = Mc² Ties Mass and Energy Together

The concept of matter as collapsed or condensed energy is derived from Einstein's famous equation E = mc², which shows the equivalence of mass (m) and energy (E). This equation [...] that matter is essentially a concentrated form of energy. At its core, all matter is composed of subatomic particles like protons, neutrons, and electrons, whose masses arise from [...] within their fundamental components such as quarks and gluons.
