Spores Galore!
Short answer: Mushrooms are the reproductive bodies of fungi. They release microscopic spores from gills, pores or spines under the cap; many species actively launch spores a tiny distance, after which air currents carry them, sometimes very far.
A single mushroom can release millions to billions of spores, raising the odds that a few land somewhere suitable. The footage shows time-lapse and close-up views of spores drifting from mushrooms.
