Self-Parking Chairs

Short answer: In February 2016, Nissan showed the Intelligent Parking Chair, an office chair that rolls itself back to its place at a table when someone claps. Based on its cars' parking-assist technology, the system used four cameras on the walls to track each chair from above and steer motorized wheels.

It was a promotional demonstration rather than a product. The footage shows the chairs returning to a conference table.

Video transcript: Self-Parking Chairs: In 2016, Nissan Built Office Chairs That Park Themselves

Did you know, in February 2016, Nissan introduced the intelligent parking chair, an innovative office chair that autonomously returns to its designated position with a simple clap. Inspired by Nissan's intelligent parking assist technology used in vehicles, the chair is equipped with a 360-degree motorized roller system and communicates with a network of four motion-detecting cameras mounted on the room's walls. These cameras generate a bird's-eye view and wirelessly transmit the chair's current location and intended destination. NOW YOU KNOW!
