Nebula
Short answer: Nebulae are huge clouds of gas and dust in space. Types include emission nebulae, which glow; reflection nebulae, which scatter starlight; and dark nebulae, which block light behind them.
Stars form when dense regions of molecular clouds collapse under gravity into protostars surrounded by disks. Radiation and winds from young, massive stars then shape the surrounding gas and make it glow.

Video transcript: Nebula: Stars Are Born When Parts of a Nebula Collapse
Nebulas are vast, interstellar clouds of gas and dust, where stars are born. They come in different types, including emission, reflection, and dark nebulas, each revealing distinct characteristics. Did you know? The process of nebula formation begins with a gravitational collapse of a cold, dense region in a molecular cloud. As a region within the cloud collapses, it forms a protostar, a dense, hot core surrounded by a rotating disk of material. What's really interesting to me about this is... Radiation pressure and stellar winds from massive nearby stars, or the developing protostar itself, then act on the surrounding gas and dust, sculpting it into intricate shapes and causing it to glow. This glowing gas forms the beautiful structures we observe in nebulas. NOW YOU KNOW!
