# Event Horizon (DD-089)

> A black hole's event horizon is the boundary beyond which nothing, not even light, can escape. Anything that crosses it moves inevitably toward the center, where general relativity predicts a singularity. The horizon results from extreme spacetime curvature caused by mass packed into a small region, and it marks the point of no return.

## Quick facts

- **DD-089-F01**: The event horizon is a boundary. _(Write-up · Exhibit A (Boundary))_
- **DD-089-F02**: Not even light escapes. _(Write-up · Exhibit B (Light))_

## Write-up

Nothing, not even light, escapes from inside an event horizon. Past it, everything heads toward the center.

1. **Boundary**: The event horizon is a boundary.
2. **Light**: Not even light escapes.
3. **Singularity**: Relativity predicts a central singularity.
4. **Curvature**: Spacetime is extremely curved.
5. **No return**: It marks the point of no return.

## Reel vs. record

- **Note**: The Reel says gravity becomes infinitely strong at the center; that is the prediction of general relativity, which is expected to break down there.

### Transcript

Black holes have a boundary known as the Event Horizon, beyond which nothing, not even light, can escape their gravitational pull. Did you know? Once an object crosses this boundary, it is inexorably drawn toward the singularity at the center of the black hole, where gravity becomes infinitely strong. This phenomenon is a consequence of the extreme curvature of spacetime, caused by the concentration of mass in a small region. So, what does this really mean? The Event Horizon essentially marks the point of no return for anything approaching a black hole. It's a concept that challenges our understanding of the fundamental nature of space, time, and gravity. And it's a key feature that makes black holes some of the most enigmatic and mysterious objects in the universe. NOW YOU KNOW!
